Sotiel Coronada - Odiel River
Valverde, Andalucia, Spain

Sendero Circular Valverde del Camino along various former railroad tracks

Sotiel Coronada

Ermita de Coronada

Mirador upon the Odiel river and a water mill

Looks like a Roman bridge across the Odiel River

Hike along the River Odiel

Not so easy hike with crossing the river in the water!

Molino de Berecillo, one of the many water mills

This was one of the difficult stretches we had to walk on the other side of the river, climbing rocks etc.

Walk along former mining territory, along a former levada and former railway tracks

No bridge here to cross the river... we had to wader through various currents

We had lunch here but stayed overnight behind the Ermita building. Very quiet nights

The Dolmen Gabrieles hike - Valverde

Many dolmens in the dehesa landscape

Lunch with tapas at Plaza Ramón y Cajal in Valverde

Vila Real de Santo António

Aire with at least 100 motor caravans!

Friday 17.03.2017 Loulé - Valverde del Camino - Sotiel Coronado, Spain: 76 km, sunny 20ºC

Drive to Spain, to Valverde del Camino, a mining and shoe manufacture town where we had lunch at the Quinta del Zapateiro (good, 2 menus à 9,50€ + coffee 32 €). We parked at the official aire for motor caravans but it is not a nice place, crampy and loud, next to the road. We did the hike "Sendero Circular Valverde del Camino" which went along various former railroad tracks (9,5 km 2 hours. We decided to move on because we didn't like the aire. We drove towards Sotiel and parked at the Ermidas next to the Odiel River. N37º35'49" W 6º50'43"

Saturday 18.03.2017: Sotiel Coronado: 25ºC sunny

Hike of the Mill's trail (2h40, 13 km, partly difficult along the shore and wade through water!). After a beer at the snack we had a delicious lunch at home. Relaxing afternoon.

Sunday 19.03.2017: Sotiel Coronado - Valverde - Vila Real de Santo Antonio: 113 km - 26ºC warm and sunny

Drive to Valverde where we walked the Dolmen Gabrieles hike - Conjunto dolménico de Los Gabrieles - (8,8 km, 2 hours). Then drive to the parking in Calle Antiguo Berrocal. Walk into centre of town where we had some tapas with cañas at Plaza 4 on the Plaza Ramón y Cajal. Drive to Vila Real de Santo António where we settled at the official aire (4,50€/24 hours + 2,50€ for electricity). It is unbelievable how everywhere at the coast in Portugal these places are crowded! After a siesta walk to the pier where we had a coffee. Back home we decided to have dinner at home, as usual delicious and the best. N37º11'57" W7º24'54"
