November 14, 2006: Loulé - Castro Marim (Portugal)
Drive from Loulé to Castro Marim where we spent the night as usual
when we leave a little late.

Fahrt von Loulé nach Castro Marim, wo wir wie üblich, wenn
wir ein wenig spät loskommen, übernachtet haben.
November 15, 2006: Castro Marim (Portugal) to Algeciras (Spain),
Tanger, Asilah (Morocco)
Because we wanted to catch the ferry in Algeciras so we would reach our
destination with daylight, we got up early and had an early start. It took
us 4 hours to get to Algeciras with a stop at Carrefour in Sevilla Drive
from Castro Marim to Algeciras. We were so lucky to get a ferry at 13:30
(Spanisch time) which arrived in Tager at 15:30. Price of our open return
ticket 468 euros. Our ferry "Boughaz" (company: Comarit) was so
empty, we felt like we had it only for us. We had a very good lunch from
the absolutely empty self-service restaurant -you could see absolutely no
food and nobody in there, except a cashier who was sitting there. After
2,5 hours we arrived in Tager, and we spent about at least one hour with
the customs which were so chaotic! We were "released" at just
about the right time to get to the campground in Asilah (44 km South of
Tanger) before it got dark (aprox. at 17:20). Our campground As Saada is
located close to town, so we walked to the medina (means old town) and had
a stroll through the exotic little streets with lots of people, and
finally we had dinner at the restaurant "Le Pont" on the road
along the beach. Food was excellent and inexpensive: for 193 DH (10 Dirham
= ± 1 euro) we had very tasty shish/chicken-kebab, dessert, and a
delicious fresh mint tea! This first day was a very exciting day with many
new impressions. Note: Morocco is in the same time zone as Portugal.
15. 11. 06: Castro Marim (Portugal) nach Algeciras (Spanien),
Tanger, Asilah (Marokko)
Da wir die Fähre von Algeciras so früh wie möglich
nehmen wollten, um noch vor der Dunkelheit unser Ziel in der Nähe von
Tanger zu erreichen, sind wir wirklich früh aufgestanden und
gestartet. Im Endeffekt haben wir 4 Stunden von Castro Marim bis Algeciras
gebraucht (inkl. einem Tank- und einem Carrefour-Stopp in Sevilla). Wir
haben Glück gehabt, denn wir sind gerade so angekommen, dass wir die
Fähre um 13:30 Uhr (spanischer Zeit) erwischt haben. Unsere Fähre
"Boughaz" der Schiffsgesellschaft Comarit braucht 2,5 Stunden
bis Tanger. Kosten für Hin- und Zurück: 468 Euro. Sie war so
unglaublich leer, wir haben gedacht, wir haben die ganze Fähre nur für
uns. Wir haben sehr gut zu Mittag gegessen, nachdem wir das Essen in einem
absolut leeren Self-Service-Restaurant bestellt haben - es sah alles wie
geschlossen aus, aber da war ein Kassierer, der an seinem Platz saß.
Nach unserer Ankunft in Tanger haben wir noch ca. 1 Stunden am Zoll
gebraucht, und danach haben wir es gerade noch geschafft, die 44 km von
Tanger nach Asilah zum Campingplatz As Saada vor dem Einbruch der Nacht
(gegen 17.20 Uhr) Unser Campingplatz liegt nahe der Stadt, so dass wir
noch zu Fuß zur Medina (Altstadt) von Asilah gelaufen sind und dort
durch die bunten, exotischen Gassen rumgelaufen sind. Danach haben wir zu
Abend im Restaurant "Le Pont" gegessen (Rind- und Hähnchen-Kebab);
das Essen war sehr gut, und der frische Pfefferminztee war der leckerste
Tee, den ich je getrunken habe. Dieser erste Tag war voller neuer Eindrücke.
Bemerkung: Marokko ist in der gleichen Zeitzone wie Portugal.

November 16, 2006: Asilah - Roman ruins Volubilis - Meknès
Unfortunately is the weather not so good to go to the souk which takes
place here on thursdays and sundays. We decided to head to Meknès
with a detour to the Roman city ruins of Volubilis. This is a huge area:
25 ha of 40 ha have been uncovered! This town was strategically very well
located, the views to all directions are fantastic. After this we drove to
Meknès to reach the campground on the Sultan's Palace, but even
with the friendly help of a policeman we were unable to find it. I then
asked a taxi to show us the way, and finally we reached it (cost: 15 DH =
1,5 €). At aprox. 19:30 we took a taxi (for 10 DH) to the new part of
town to have dinner with our campground host who recommended us Rotisserie
Karam (2, rue Gana), a very basic restaurant which serves great tasty
food: we enjoyed very much the lovely food (couscous and tagine) who was
served by the owner Brahim (82 DH). He was very kind and helped us to get
argan oil which I wanted to bring back for a friend. Our taxi back cost 12
DH.
16. 11. 2006: Asilah - römische Ruinen von Volubilis - Meknès
Leider ist das Wetter heute nicht schön, so dass wir uns
entschieden haben, statt auf den Souk zu gehen (der hier Donnerstags und
Sonntags stattfindet), weiter zu fahren nach Meknès mit einem
Umweg, um die römische Ruinen von Volubilis zu besichtigen. Die Stadt
ist 40 ha groß, wovon nur 25 ha ausgegraben sind. Sie liegt
teilweise sehr strategisch auf einem Hügel mit toller Aussicht auf
allen Seiten. Nach diesem lohnenden Besuch sind wir weiter nach Meknès
gefahren, wo wir zum Campingplatz am Königspalast wollten. Da wir es
trotz freundlicher Hilfe eines Polizisten nicht schafften, habe ich ein "Petit
Taxi" beauftragt, uns den Weg zu zeigen. So sind wir dann doch
endlich dort angekommen... Ich kann es immer noch nicht erklären -
nimmt ebenfalls ein Taxi (dies hat 15 DH gekostet = 1,5 €). Gegen
19.30 Uhr haben wir ein Taxi (10 DH) mit Havid, dem
Campingplatzangestellten, in die Neustadt genommen, um dort in der
Rotisserie Karam (2, rue du Gana), ein einfaches Restaurant, das aber sehr
leckeren Gerichte serviert, zu Abend zu essen. Uns haben die Speisen
(Couscous und Tagine) sehr geschmeckt (82 DH), und Brahim, der Besitzer,
war hat sich später zu uns gesetzt und uns danach geholfen, das "Arganöl"
in einem Geschäft zu besorgen. Zurück hat uns das Taxi 12 DH
gekostet.

November 17, 2006: Meknès
After having had breakfast with fresh baguetes, we took off for our
sightseeing tour beginning with the Heri es-Souani storage rooms for the
hay and grain for the Sultan Moulay Ismail's 12,000 horses. The we walked
to the Lalla Aouda square and visited the market inside. The presentation
of the fruits, the sweets, and the olives is so appealing, and we couldn't
resist to buy some olives and lemon pickles (!) which we carried
throughout our Meknès visit. At lunch time we returned to
Rotisserie Karam and had about the same dishes we had yesterday. The
couscous was so tasty and served with plenty of different vegetables (for
98 DH). Of course, I also drank my fresh peppermit tea. For our coffee we
chose to go to the tea room "Boule de Neige". At 15:15 (opening
time) we visite Moulay Ismail's mausoleum. In the evening before sunset,
we still set off with our bicycles to find a better way to get our of the
campground without having to go through the 2 tunnels/arches which look so
scary when we have to pass with our motorhome.
17.11.2006: Meknès
Nachdem wir mit frischen Baguettes zum Frühstück versorgt
wurden, haben wir unsere Stadtbesichtigung mit dem Besuch der Heu- und
Getreidespeicher Heri es-Souani des Sultans Moulay Ismail für seine
12.000 Pferde begonnen. Danach sind wir zum Platz Lalla Aouda gelaufen,
dort in die Markthalle rein, und wir waren sehr angetan von der Präsentation
der Ware an den verschiedenen Ständen. Zum Mittagessen haben wir uns
mit einem Petit Taxi zur Rue Gana bringen lassen, und dort haben wir
wieder einen Couscous und eine Tagine gegessen. Der Couscous war wieder so
lecker und so reichlich mit verschiedenen Gemüsesorten garniert
(alles für 98 DH). Natürlich habe ich nicht auf meinem frischen
Pfefferminztee verzichtet... Danach haben wir noch einen Kaffee im Salon
de Thé "Boule de Neige" getrunken und sind dann weiter
zum Mausoleum Moulaz Ismails (ab 15 Uhr geöffnet, kostenlos). Kurz
vor dem Sonnenuntergang sind wir noch mit den Fahrrädern in der
Umgebung gefahren, um einen neuen Weg vom Campingplatz zu suchen, bei dem
wir nicht mehr durch die zwei klein wirkenden Tore in der Sultanstadt
fahren müssen.
