26.06.02: Exford - Porlock - Minehead - Exford
Drive to Exford where we found a very nice picnic place with a good car
park. After strolling through the little village with 2 stores we got on
an "Explorer" bus (kind of drop-on drop off-bus) which took us
up to Porlock. We then walked along the coastpath to Minehead (3 hours).
From there we took the bus back to Exford. We tried to reach a campground
about a mile away from Exford, but had to turn around because of too
narrow road and access to the site. So we ended up staying at the picnic
place in Exford.
26.06.02: Exford - Porlock - Minehead - Exford
Fahrt nach Exford, wo wir einen tollen Picknickplatz ausfindig gemacht
haben, welcher außerdem ein guter Parkplatz ist. Nachdem wir uns das
kleine Dorf angeschaut haben - es hat grundsätzlich nur zwei
Mini-Geschäfte und einen Pub -, haben wir den "Explorer"-Bus
genommen (eine Art Touristenbus, in dem man so oft ein- und aussteigen
kann, wie man will) und sind damit bis Porlock gefahren. Dann sind wir dem
Küstenweg entlang bis Minehead gewandert, wo wir dann in den Bus zurück
nach Exford eingestiegen sind. Wir haben noch versucht, an dem Abend einen
Campingplatz in der Nähe von Exford zu erreichen, es war aber die
totale Katastrophe: die Straße war eng, es hingen Äste weit
runter, man konnte nirgendswo umdrehen. Nach 2 km Fahrt mit viel Schweiß
und Kratzer am Wagen konnten wir nicht mal in den Campingplatz einfahren,
da die Zufahrt zu eng war. Wir haben also die Nacht auf dem Picknickplatz
in Exfort verbracht, was gar nicht übel war.

27.06.02: Exford - County Gate - Lynton
Hike into Exmoor National Park from County Gate to Oare, through the
lovely Doone Valley, Malmsmead with the Lorna Doone Farm and back up the
hill to our motorhome. Drive to Lynton where we settled at the Channel
View Caravan & Camping Park (8 pound). We enjoyed the sunny evening
with our jiggsaw up late in the night.
27.06.02: Exford - County Gate - Lynton
Wanderung im Exmoor Nationalpark vom County Gate nach Oare, durch das hübsche
Doone-Tal, Malmsmead mit der Lorna Doone Farm und zurück zum Wohni.
Fahrt nach Lynton, wo wir uns auf den Channel View Caravan & Camping
Park (8 Pfund) gemütlich gemacht haben. Wir haben den sonnigen Abend
mit unserem Puzzle verbracht.

28.06.02: Lynton - Lynmouth
We began the morning with doing the laundry and relaxing. At 4 pm we
decided to walk down to Lynton and Lynmouth. Both towns are really pretty
and cosy. Down in Lynmouth we sat at the Rock House and had a beer -Julia
got rather the taste for Irish coffee since she tried it in Ireland. We
walked all the way up to our campground which lies 269 m up in the hills -
the trails goes through beautiful forest and comes up in the hills with
beautiful views on both villages and the coast.
28.06.02: Lynton - Lynmouth
Den Tag haben wir mit Wäschewaschen begonnen und uns einfach
entspannt. Um 16 Uhr sind wir nach Lynton und Lynmouth runtermarschiert.
Beide Dörfer sind wirklich hübsch und süß. Ganz unten
in Lynmouth haben wir noch im Rock House gesessen und ein Bierchen - bzw.
Julia einen Irish Coffee (sie ist auf den Geschmack damals in Irland
gekommen)getrunken. Wir sind dann von Lynmouth hoch zu unserem
Campingplatz gelaufen (er liegt bei 269 m Höhe) entlang dem schönen
Weg im Wald und mit tollen Blicken auf die beiden Städtchen sowie auf
die Küste.

Volker ist still under shock while thinking that we have driven
through this narrow, winding, 25 % steep road -as well as the "fearsome
Porlock Hills" (also a 25% road for two miles!) On the right: the
incredible water-powered Cliff Railway linking uptown Lynton to downtown
Lynmouth/ Volker kann es nicht fassen, dass solche engen, kurvigen,
mit 25 % steilen "Fahrradwege" Hauptstraßen sind, die wir
schon ein paar mal bezwungen haben! Rechts: die unglaubliche
wasserbetriebene Bahn, die die Oberstadt Lynton mit der Unterstadt
Lynmouth verbindet.

29.06.02: Watersmeet - Lynmouth - Lynton
Not too much sun today, but still good weather to hike, so we left our
campground at 11 am and walked all the way down to Watersmeet. Then along
the East Lyn River up to Rockford where we enjoyed a beer outside with our
own picnic composed of "french stick" and cheese. Then lots of
ups and downs until we reached Lynmouth. After a Guinness at the Rising
Sun Pub we took the Cliff Railway up to Lynton, did some grocery shopping
and walked the steep and pretty long trail up to our campground. We were
back home at 5.30 pm, the time all the stores usually close.
29.06.02: Watersmeet - Lynmouth - Lynton
Heute ist es nicht so sonnig aber trotzdem gut zum Wandern, und so sind
wir um 11 Uhr zum Watersmeet runtermarschiert. Dann entlang dem East Lyn
River bis Rockford, wo wir an einem Pub draußen unser Picknick
(bestehend aus französischem Baguette und Käse) mit einem Bier
genossen haben. Dann lauter Hoch-und-Runter bis Lynmouth, wo wir uns noch
einen Guinness beim Rising-Sun-Pub gegönnt haben. Die Cliff Railway -
die Bergbahn - hat uns dann nach Lynmouth hoch befördert, wo wir
einige Einkäufe getätigt haben, bevor wir dann den steilen und
langen Weg hoch zu unserem Campingplatz überwunden haben. Um 17.30
Uhr waren wir wieder zuhause; genau um 17.30 Uhr schließen auch alle
Geschäfte.

30.06.02: Valley of Rocks - Woolacombe
Today we moved on to Woolacombe after a small walk through the Valley of
Rocks. On our way to Woolacombe we stopped at a pub to watch the final
Soccer World Cup match Brazil against Germany. We enjoyed the match and
the results and drove on to Woolacombe. All car parks there cost £
3.50, so we decided to stay on a campground. Just a short way up town is
the Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park and, although it's really expensive with
its rate of £ 17.50 per night, we decided to stay, because we wanted
to see what is going on in a Holiday Park. Basically, there is a heated
swimming pool which we used, there are coin-operated games, and there is
evening entertainment for children and adults. So we went for a swim and
in the evening went to the show room/bar. In between, we finished our
Welford-on-Avon jiggsaw -which was really difficult!
30.06.02: Valley of Rocks - Woolacombe
Heute sind wir nach Woolacombe weitergefahren, nachdem wir durch die
Valley of Rocks spazieren gegangen sind. Auf unserem Weg nach Woolacombe
haben wir einen Stopp an einem Pub eingelegt, um das Endspiel der Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft
zu sehen: Brasilien gegen Deutschland. In Woolacombe kosten alle Parkplätze
£ 3.50, so dass wir uns entschieden haben, gleich den Wagen auf einen
Campingplatz zu stellen. Ein wenig weiter oberhalb des Dorfes liegt des
Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park. Und, obwohl es wirklich teuer ist mit
seinen £ 17,50 pro Nacht in der Saison, haben wir uns entschieden,
hier zu bleiben, um mal zu sehen, was dort alles "los ist".
Grundsätzlich gibt es ein beheiztes Hallenbad, zwei Hallen mit
elektronischen Geldspielgeräten und Abendunterhaltung. Da das Wetter
auch nicht so gut ist, sind wir gleich schwimmen gegangen. Abends dann zur
Unterhaltung. Zwischendurch haben wir noch unser 1000teiliges Puzzle mit
dem Motiv von Welford-on-Avon fertig bekommen - ein wirklich schwieriges
Puzzle!
