29.08.00 After a lunch stop in Livingston we drove up to Yellowstone National Park. Although we have been there 2 years ago, we decided to go there again, for it is -this is, of course, my personal opinion- one of the most interesting National Parks we've been to, and we have been to a lot already! This Park has the largest and most varied collection of geothermal features on earth (geysers, hot springs, mud pots, fumaroles, etc.) as well as much wildlife. After wandering through the Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces, we drove to Lamar Valley where we saw many bisons (or buffalos), wolves and a coyote. Overnight at Pebble Creek Campground.
29.08.00 Nach einem Mittagessenstopp in Livingston, Fahrt zum Yellowstone National Park. Obwohl wir schon vor zwei Jahren dort waren, haben wir uns entschieden, nochmal hinzufahren, denn - das ist natürlich meine persönliche Meinung, Yellowstone National Park ist einer der interessantesten Nationalparks, die wir kennen, und das sind nicht gerade wenige. In diesem Nationalpark konzertiert sich die weltweit größte Sammlung von einzigartigen geothermischen Phänomene, wie Geysire, heiße Quellen, Schlammteiche, Fumarolen, etc. Nachdem wir durch die Mammoth-Hot-Springs-Terrassen gewandert sind, sind wir zum Lamar-Tal gefahren, wo wir viele Bisons (oder Büffel), Wölfe und einen Kojote gesehen haben. Übernachtung am Pebble Creek Campground.

30.08.00 Drive to Roosevelt Tower and Tower Falls of Yellowstone River where we hiked to the upper and lower viewpoints. Drive to Norris Geyser Basin where we watched all the hot springs, geysers and weird stuff happening over there. At 7.30 p.m. ranger talk about Yellowstone geology on Norris Campground. Overnight at Canyon Village Campground.
30.08.00 Fahrt zum Roosevelt Tower und zu den Tower-Wasserfällen des Yellowstone Flusses. Dort sind wir hinunter zu den Fällen gewandert. Fahrt zum Norris Geysier Basin, wo wir uns die ganzen heißen Quellen, die Geysiere und sonstige verrückte Sachen auf dem Rundgang angeschaut haben. Übernachtung am Canyon Village Campingplatz.

31.08.00 After doing the laundry, we drove to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and hiked down Uncle Tom's Trail to the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River. Afterwards, on our way to Fishing Bridge, we stopped at the Sulphur Caldron and Mud Vulcano Area where we made a short hike (and saw a coyote). We also saw some golden eagles and hawks. At 6 pm we made our way out of the Park to Cody (total approx. 120 km). About 65 km from Cody we saw 2 grizzlies on the other side of the river and short afterwards a campground where we decided to stay. We chose a beautiful site along the river. We knew there were these bears close to us, and during our dinner outside we were very alert. There was no bear, just a young moose that scared us to hell.
31.08.00 Nachdem wir heute Wäsche gewaschen haben, sind wir zu dem Yellowstone Grand Canyon gefahren und sind den Uncle Tom's Weg runter zu den Lower Falls gelaufen. Später auf unserem Weg nach Fishing Bridge haben wir einen Spaziergang am Sulphur Caldron und Mud Vulcano gemacht - da haben wir auch einen Kojote gesehen. Auch haben wir einige Goldene Adler und Falken gesehen. Um 18 Uhr haben wir uns auf den Weg raus aus dem Park nach Cody (etwa 120 km) gemacht. Ungefähr 65 km vor Cody haben wir zwei Grizzly-Bären auf dem anderen Flussufer gesehen, kurz danach kam dann auch ein Campingplatz. Dort haben wir uns einen schönen Platz am Fluss ausgesucht, und während des Abendessens haben wir ständig auf Bären gelauert. Die sind nicht gekommen, dafür aber ein junger Elch, das uns sehr erschrocken hat.

zuvor kam da nur Dampf aus einem Gulli auf dem Parkplatz von Mud Vulcano,
jetzt ist das ein richtiges Loch geworden!

01.09.00 After driving through the Wapiti Valley (Shoshone Natl. Forest) along the Shoshone River where there are extraordinary rock formations called palisades, we stopped for lunch at a nice and cozy restaurant "Historic Trail Shop Inn Café" approx. 30 km from Cody, Wyoming (WY). Cody is a real western town, where the myth of Buffalo Bill is alive. Dinner at Proud's Saloon.
01.09.00 Nachdem wir durch den Wapiti-Tal (Shoshone National Forest) mit sehr aussergewöhnlichen Steinformationen - genannt Palisaden - entlang dem Shoshone-Fluss gefahren sind, haben wir einen Stopp in einem netten und gemütlichen kleinen Restaurant, "Historic Trail Shop Inn Café" für das Mittagessen eingelegt, ca. 30 km vor Cody, Wyoming (WY). Cody ist eine echte Westernstadt, wo der Mythos von Buffalo Bill sehr lebendig ist. Abendessen im Proud's Saloon.

02.09.00 After entering Big Horn National Forest and visiting Shell Canyon, we decided to explore this interesting area with a nice hike. We settled down at the Ranger Creek Campground, had lunch, took a nap, and hit the Adelaide Trail which goes through the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area (13 km, 4 hours). We were lucky to see a mule deer and a moose cow with her young on our way back.
02.09.00 Nachdem wir in das Gebiet des Big Horn National Forest reingefahren sind und den Shell Canyon besichtigt haben, hatten wir Lust, diese interessante Gegend mit einer Wanderung ein wenig mehr zu erforschen. Auf Empfehlung eines Rangers sind wir zum Ranger Creek Campingplatz gefahren, haben uns dort ansässig gemacht, mittag gegessen, eine Siesta gemacht und sind danach auf dem Adelaide Wanderweg, der durch die Cloud Peak Wilderness Area führt, losgestiefelt. Wir haben uns gefreut, auf dem Rückweg einen Großohrhirsch und eine Elchkuh mit Jungen ganz nah von uns sehen zu können.
