29.09.00 Drive to Santa Fe (elevation 2150 m), New Mexico, USA's oldest capital city. We are not anymore accustomed to cities: the traffic and the full parking lots almost drove us crazy. We settled down at Los Campos de Santa Fe RV Resort on the Cerrillos Road after we spent at least an hour trying to check our emails at Kinko's (their telephone jack didn't work as we found out later). Some grocery shopping and some clean up filled the rest of the first day in Santa Fe.
29.09.00 Fahrt nach Santa Fe (2.150 m Höhe), die älteste Hauptstadt in USA. Wir sind nicht mehr an (Groß)städte gewöhnt: Der Verkehr und die vollen Parkplätze haben uns ganz schön genervt. Nachdem wir mindestens eine Stunde bei Kinko's versucht haben, eine Verbindung mit unserem Notebook aufzubauen, um die Emails und die Website zu schicken (wie es sich später rausgestellt hat, lag das Problem bei denen und nicht an unserem Computer), haben wir uns auf dem privaten Campingplatz "Los Campos de Santa Fe RV Resort" installiert. Ein paar Einkäufe, ein wenig Reinigung und Aufräumarbeit haben den Rest unseres ersten Tages in Santa Fe ausgefüllt.

30.09.00 Enjoyed Santa Fé, New Mexico (population 67,000), an adobe wonderland. We opted for a bus that took us straight to downtown almost to the famous Plaza. We spent the evening sitting on iron-saddle bar chairs at the Saloon "Cowgirl Hall of Fame" drinking margaritas, stunning at the incredible bargirl, and hearing the live Blues music.
30.09.00 Wir sind mit dem Bus bis in die Stadtmitte von Santa Fé, zur berühmten Plaza, gefahren. Die attraktive Stadt (66.000 Einwohner) ist hauptsächlich im Adobebaustil (inspiriert von der Pueblokultur) gebaut. Den Abend haben wir auf Eisensattel-Barhocker im "Cowgirl Hall of Fame"-Saloon mit ausgezeichneten Margaritas verbracht, dabei das unglaubliche Bargirl beobachtet und der Blues Livemusik gelauscht.

01.10.00 Drive to Albuquerque along the Turquoise Trail, a scenic byway passing old mining towns Cerrillos, Madrid, and Golden. Before entering Albuquerque we drove up to the Sandia Crest (3260 m elevation) through the Cibola National Forest and we were granted fantastic views in a 360° range, especially upon the city of Albuquerque. Once in town, our friends Gail and Jay (see chapter 26 "Port Townsend") met with us and drove us to their beautiful house. We enjoyed very much the evening together, talking, laughing, and eating some delicious home made hamburgers.
01.10.00 Fahrt nach Albuquerque entlang des sog. Turquoise Trail, eine landschaftlich reizvolle Nebenstraße, die die Bergbaustädtchen Cerrillos, Madrid und Golden durchquert. Kurz vor Albuquerque sind wir zum Aussichtspunkt "Sandia Crest" (3260 m Höhe) durch den Cibola National Forest hochgefahren, und die Belohnung war ein Rundumblick, insbesondere auf die Stadt Albuquerque. In der Stadt haben uns unsere Freunde Gail und Jay (siehe unter 26. "Port Townsend") abgeholt und zu sich nach Hause gefahren. Wir haben den Abend zusammen sehr genossen, viel gequatscht und gelacht sowie ausgezeichnete hausgemachte Hamburgers gegessen.

02.10.00 Visit of the Atomic Museum at the Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Drive on the legendary route 66 to downtown where we had good New Mexican fast food at La Hacienda express, then we drove to Old Town. After walking through the few streets in this area, we headed to Dawn and Jims house whom we met on the Durango Railroad trip (see chapter 44). Their beautiful house sits right up on the slope of a hill on the East side of town.
02.10.00 Besuch des Atomic-Museum bei der Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fahrt auf der legendären Route 66 in Richtung Innenstadt, wo wir dann new-mexikanisches Fast-Food-Essen an La Hacienda express gegessen haben, dann sind wir weiter zum alten Stadtkern gefahren. Nachdem wir die paar Straßen durchgewandert sind, sind wir zu Dawn und Jim - die wir auf der Durango-Eisenbahn (siehe Kapitel 44) getroffen haben - gefahren. Ihr wunderschönes Haus sitzt weit über die Stadt an einem Berghang im Ostteil der Stadt.
