4.12.00 In the morning Volker took his bicycle and explored the surroundings. In the afternoon, we drove through Mazatlán and finally made a stroll through the old center of Mazatlán. Of course there are around 19 km of nearly continuous beaches, but the old city has its charm too. I had my hiking boots repaired at a shoe cleaning place in the main Plaza. Now the boots look so clean, I am afraid to use them again. Later on, back to our beach site on Playa de Los Cerritos for the night.
4.12.00 Am Vormittag hat Volker mit dem Fahrrad die Umgebung exploreirt. Danach sind wir in die alte Innenstadt von Mazatlán gefahren und sind dort gemütlich spazierengegangen. Es sind über 19 km ununterbrochener Strand in Mazatlán, die Altstadt ist jedoch auch interessant. An dem zentralen Plaza der Stadt habe ich mir meine Wanderschuhe reparieren und danach putzen lassen. Jetzt sehen diese aus wie neu, so dass ich gar nicht mehr den Mut habe, die Schuhe nochmal zu benutzten. Ich bekomme die nie wieder so toll hin. Danach zurück zum Strand Los Cerritos für die Nacht.

5.12.00 Grocery shopping was necessary, so we drove to a "Giant" supermarket. We are always surprised, how expensive things are in the supermarkets in general. It looks like it is cheaper to eat in a inexpensive restaurant than to buy groceries. Then it was on the road to Tepic. We didn't made it all the way and took a detour to a beach site Noveillero nearby (about 38 km x 2). On our way we passed a couple of restaurants with life music and stopped for a beer. The music was really something special, with loud noise from every instrument to typical well known Mexican sounds all in one piece. According to our guide book, this popular music is a mixture of German march and Mexican music. Of course we had our beer (Julia a mineral water) but they started suddenly to bring a lot of food, like shrimps, fish, cucumber etc. As it turned out, this is the local tradition in the area and all this food is free. And best of all, the beer at this restaurant was the same price as in the grocery store. So we had free of charge a lot of shrimp, life music and for not much money a beer or two. After around an hour of this "hardrock Mexican" music, we drove on to the beach and spent the night at a small fishing village between fishing boats.
5.12.00 Der Einkauf von Lebensmittel stand heute morgen auf dem Programm. Wir sind immer wieder überrascht, wie teuer die Lebensmittel in den Supermärkten sind. Es ist oft billiger, in eines der kleinen Restaurant zu gehen, als selbst zu kochen. Danach sind wir Richtung Tepic weitergefahren. Da wir es vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit nicht bis dahin schafften, sind wir vorher abgebogen Richtung Novillero zum Strand. Während dieses Umweges zum Strand (etwa 38 km x 2) fuhren wir an einigen Restaurants vorbei mit Life Musik. Also, angehalten und rein, um etwas zu trinken. Die Musik war wirklich, wie in unserem Reiseführer beschrieben, eine Mischung deutscher Marschmusik mit mexikanischer Musik. Diese Art von Musik ist zur Zeit sehr populär in Mexiko, hört sich jedoch ziemlich schlimm an, teilweise wie eine bayrische Blaskapelle, die Hardrock-Musik spielt. Ich hatte ein Bier und Julia ein Mineralwasser. Nachdem die Getränke gebracht worden waren, kam auf einmal kleine Schalen mit kleinen Scampis, kleinen Fischen, Gurken etc. in regelmäßigen Abständen. Wir befürchteten schon das Schlimmste, es stellte sich jedoch heraus, daß dies in der ganzen Region Brauch ist und, viel besser, kostenlos. Daher haben wir stundenlang Scampis und Fisch gegessen, mexikanische Life-Musik gehört und für das Bier genausoviel Geld ausgegeben, als wenn wir es im Supermarkt gekauft hätten (haben wir nicht da zu teuer, DM 1.50 die kleine Flasche). Nach ungefähr einer Stunde ging es weiter zum Strand. Die Nacht verbringen wir in einem kleinen Fischerdorf zwischen lauter Fischboote.

6.12.00 Today is a driving day again. We drove all the way down to Puerto Vallarta, a sea resort made famous 1964 by Richard Burton and Liz Taylor with their film "Night of the Iguanas". Of course, at this time it was a small fishing village. Now it is really BIG with international airport (we just saw an American Airlines flight when we drove by), a four lane highway and lots of hotels. After some driving around, we decided to stay for the next days in the Taco's Trailer Park. A big difference to the sea resort Mazatlán is the origin of the people. In Mazatlán, all the people in RV's and trailers came from British Columbia, Canada. Here in Puerto Vallarta everybody seems to come from Quebec, Canada. Are there any people in Canada left?
6.12.00 Heute ist ein Fahrtag. Wir sind die ganze Strecke nach Puerto Vallarta durchgefahren. Die Stadt ist ein bekanntes Touristenziel, bekannt gemacht worden 1964 durch Richard Burton und Liz Taylor mit ihrem Film "Night of the Iguanas". Natürlich war es damals ein kleines Fischernest. Jetzt ist es richtig GROSS. Mit internationalem Flughafen, Direktflüge zu amerikanischen Städten, vierspurigen Autobahnen und viele Hotels. Nachdem wir etwas herum gefahren sind, entschieden wir, im Taco's Trailer Park zu übernachten. Ein lustiger Unterschied zu unserer letzten großen Stadt Mazatlán ist die Tatsache, dass in Mazatlán alle Leute in Wohnmobilen und Wohnwagen von British Columbia, Kanada, kamen. Hier in Puerto Vallarta kommen sie aus Quebec, Kanada. Gibt es noch Leute, die zur Zeit in Kanada sind?

egret", wahrscheinlich auf Deutsch nur weisser Reiher.

7.12.00 Relaxing day in Puerto Vallarta. We strolled through old town, watched the pelicans at the sea shore, and walked along the beach a few miles of the 25 mile long beach. We had a wonderful lunch with excellent margaritas in the Restaurant "River Café" on Isla Río Cuale, a small island in the middle of the Cuale River. Of course, hotels along the beach nearly everywhere. Water temperature is around 24° C. Another night in Taco's Trailer Park.
7.12.00 Erholungstag in Puerto Vallarta. Wir sind durch die Innenstadt gelaufen, haben die Pelikane am Ufer beobachtet und sind ein 4 km entlang des 40 km langen Strandes gegangen. Sehr gutes Mittagessen mit ausgezeichneten Margaritas im Restaurant "River Café" auf der Isla Río Cuale, eine kleine Insel mitten auf dem Cuale Fluss. Natürlich sind entlang des Strandes überall Hotels und viel Action (Jet-Ski, Parasailing etc.). Die Wassertemperatur im Meer ist 24°. Eine weitere Nacht im Taco's Trailer Park.
