27.02.01 Pascagoula, MS - Dauphin Island, AL
On our way to the ferry from Dauphin Island, AL, to Fort Morgan, AL, we
decided on the spot to stay for a day on Dauphin Island. This is a very
beautiful island with just very few stores, almost no hotels and gift
shops, but a nice beach and an Audubon Bird Sanctuary (just next to the
campground). Although most birds are actually on the campground itself,
which is especially nice. Therefore, we did a bike tour along the some
part of the island and a hike through the forest, dunes and along the
beach. Very sunny and warm day with about 25 °C! Overnight in the
Dauphin Island Campground.

Auf unserem Weg zur Fähre von Dauphin Island, AL, nach Fort Morgan,
AL, haben wir spontan entschlossen, einen Tag auf Dauphin Island zu
bleiben. Dies ist eine hübsche Insel mit sehr wenig Geschäften,
Hotels oder Andenkengeschäften, aber mit einem paradiesischem Strand
und einem Vogelschutzgebiet direkt neben dem Campingplatz. Allerdings sind
die meisten Vögel eher am Campingplatz... Also ab zur Fahrradtour
entlang der Insel, eine Wanderung durch das Vogelschutzgebiet, den Dünen
und am Strand entlang. Sehr warmer und sonniger Tag mit etwa 25 °C! Übernachtung
im Dauphin Island Campingplatz.

28.02.01 Dauphin Island, AL - Pensacola, FL
A ferry ride in the morning took us over to Fort Morgan, where we
continued our drive along the coast. In Pensacola we visited the National
Museum of Naval Aviation, a huge museum full of airplanes -old and new.
This is also the home base of the Blue Angels, which we were very lucky to
see during last years summer at the Elmendorf Air Force Base in
Anchorage, Alaska. Later that evening we drove
to the Big Lagoon State Recreation Area for the night.
28.02.01 Dauphin Island, AL - Pensacola, FL
Am Morgen brachte uns die Fähre von Dauphin Island nach Fort Morgan.
Von dort aus ging es die Küste entlang nach Osten, bis nach Pensacola
in Florida. Eine der Sehenswürdigkeiten dort ist das Museum der "Naval
Aviation" mit vielen alten und neuen Flugzeugen, Simulatoren und
vieles mehr. Dies ist auch die Heimat der Blue Angels Fliegerstaffel,
welche wir in der Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage,
Alaska, gesehen haben. Übernachtung in der Big Lagoon State
Recreation Area in der Nähe.

01.03.01 Pensacola, FL - Santa Rosa Island, FL
A drive around Pensacola, and we were back directly on the coast, at the
Gulf Island National Seashore. This national park consists of various
sections like the one we visited in Mississippi, and on the Santa Rosa
Island we visited the Live Oaks and the Fort Pickens sections. There are
lots of live oak trees, covered with spanich moss, and Fort Pickens is at
the end of an endless stretch of beach on this island.

Die Fahrt um Pensacola herum brachte uns auf die Santa Rosa Insel. Dort
befanden wir uns wieder im Nationalpark, dem Gulf Island National
Seashore. Hier gibt es riesige Eichenbäume, behangen mit Moos,
endlose Strände und am Westende der Insel Fort Pickens, erbaut 1860.

A (for us) long drive east through the middle of the Florida Panhandle
along Highway 20 brought us to the Torreya State Park. Here we first had a
nice lunch on an open campfire, and later we took a hike around the park.

Eine (für uns) lange Fahrt nach Osten brachte uns Torreya State Park.
Hier hatten wir erst ein Steak-Mittagessen am offenen Holzfeuer, danach
eine schöne Wanderung durch ungewöhnliche Landschaften.

3.03.01 Torreya State Park, FL - Okefenokee
Wildlife Area, GA
We decided we had to go to nearby Georgia so we could put a new sticker
on the map back on our motorhome... A few hours drive and we were in the
Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and Wilderness Area (a terrible long
name) in Georgia, where we stayed in the Stephen C. Foster State Park.
Besides the point that this way we at least also saw a part of Georgia,
the swamp is very interesting. A nature trail gave us an idea of the area,
and in the evening a raccoon came to visit us.
3.03.01 Torreya State Park, FL - Okefenokee
Wildlife Area, GA
Wir haben uns entschieden, durch Georgia zu fahren, damit wir einen
weiteren Aufkleber auf unserer Karte hinten am Wohni anbringen konnten...
Ein paar Stunden Fahrt brachte uns zum Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge
and Wilderness Area (ein schrecklich langer Name) in Georgia. Dort übernachteten
wir im Stephen C. Foster State Park. Eine riesige Gegend von Sumpfgebiet
mit keiner Ansiedlung weit und breit. Ausserdem gab uns dies die
Gelegenheit, kurz nach Georgia reinzuschnuppern. Abends besuchte uns ein
neugierieger Waschbär.

Drove to Jacksonville, Florida, and met Sandra, her husband Quinton and
Oma (Jutta's mother). Sandra prepared a wonderful salmon dinner and we
enjoyed very much the evening together with her and Oma.

(Juttas Mutter) kennengelernt haben. Sandra hat ein wunderbares Abendessen

After a trip of approx. 27,500 miles, a few minutes at the custom
and at the transportation company Wallenius we had to say goodbye to our
RV. However, we immediately drove with our rental car down to Fort Myers
to visit Gaby and Glenn Peden, whom we met in Skagway, Alaska, 8 months
ago. After a 6 h drive we arrived late in the afternoon at Fort Myers and
stayed with Gaby and Glenn in their wonderful house.

Nach einer Reise von ca. 45.000 km, einigen Minuten beim Zoll und
bei der Transportfirma Wallenius mussten wir uns von unserem Wohni
verabschieden. Allerdings fuhren wir daraufhin gleich mit unserem
Mietwagen weiter nach Fort Myers, wo wir Gaby und Glenn Peden, die wir vor
8 Monaten in Skagway, Alaska, kennengelernt haben, besuchten. Nach einer
6-stündigen Fahrt kamen wir abends in Fort Myers an und übernachteten
im wunderschönen Haus von Gaby und Glenn.
